ONE new coronavirus case with an unknown source of infection is under investigation, the state's latest COVID-19 case figures reveal.
Five more cases were confirmed on Thursday morning, taking the total number of cases recorded in NSW to 4001.
The figures, which record the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday night, include two returned travellers and two locally-acquired cases with known links to existing cases or clusters.
The local case is from the Murrumbidgee health district, NSW Health confirmed, while the other two locally-acquired cases include a Concord Hospital worker and a new case that attended the Eastern Suburbs Legion Club.
Both were in isolation while infectious, health authorities said.
"While a subsequent test has produced a negative result [in the Murrumbidgee patient], NSW Health is taking a cautious approach and asking the individual and close contacts to remain in isolation, while further testing is undertaken," the health service said in a statement.
20,411 tests were conducted across the state during the same period as authorities urge people to seek out testing, even if they believe their symptoms are due to hayfever.
There are 86 active cases in NSW and four in intensive care.
