NRL star Sam Burgess charged over alleged domestic dispute

Newly retired NRL star Sam Burgess has been charged after an alleged domestic dispute near Bowral.

Police alleged Mr Burgess intimidated a 63-year-old man at an address in Glenquarry.

The ABC understands the man was Mr Burgess's father-in-law, Mitchell Hooke.

Officers were called to the address at 4:00pm on Saturday, October 19, after reports of a domestic dispute.

Police applied an apprehended domestic violence order against Mr Burgess on behalf of Mr Hooke.

Following further police enquiries, Mr Burgess was charged with intimidation.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs forward was forced into early retirement from the NRL aged 30 due to a chronic shoulder injury.

Mr Burgess is expected to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on December 18.
