Roosters roll over the Knights at SFS
The Sydney Roosters have jumped up to second on the ladder with a comprehensive 28-4 win over Newcastle Knights at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The Knights hung in to stay in touch in the first half, when the Roosters had two tries disallowed, but the visitors struggled to take their chances and were punished in the second 40 minutes.
Blake Ferguson opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when he grabbed a high cross-field kick from Latrell Mitchell, then reached out and planted the ball for the Roosters' first try.
Luke Keary doubled the home side's lead in the 25th minute, when he dummied and cut through the line to go under the posts.
Shaun Kenny-Dowall answered on the half-hour, touching down for a try against his old side — it was 12-4 to the Roosters at the break.
The scored stayed the same for 20 minutes after half-time, but then three unanswered tries to Daniel Tupou, Isaac Liu and Connor Watson gave the Roosters a comfortable win.
There was a worrying incident a quarter of an hour into the second half, where Ferguson tried to fend off a tackle from Chanel Mata'utia, and his shoulder caught the Knights player on the chin, knocking him out.
Mata'utia was able to sit up minutes later but left the ground with concussion and did not return.
