NRL fines Fifita and reprimands Titans

Gold Coast star David Fifita has been fined only for an incident that led to his arrest last year. (AAP)

David Fifita has avoided a ban and fined only for an incident that led to the star Gold Coast forward being arrested last December.

Fifita was arrested before being released without charge after entering a home on the Gold Coast, wrongly believing he'd been invited into the property.

Following an investigation by the NRL's integrity unit, Fifita was fined $20,000 - $10,000 of which is suspended for 12 months, clearing him to play in State of Origin II.

The Maroon must also complete counselling, education and training as mandated by the NRL.

"Although it was accepted that Fifita believed he had been invited to the home, his conduct in immediately entering on his own showed poor judgement and fell significantly short of his obligations as an NRL player," the NRL said in a statement.

As well as Fifita's fine, the NRL has also cautioned the Titans for failing to promptly disclose a payment that was made by the club for a security system to be installed in the home after the incident.

Despite this the NRL has stated there are no salary cap implications from the matter with Fifita to pay for the cost of the system personally.

The Titans are yet to make a comment on the rulings.
