Laurie Daley believes that, with the NRL All Star game now set to be a regular highlight of the calendar, the rules should be clear and reflect that of a Test or Origin match.
The Indigenous All Stars coach also predicted a bright future for the event after Saturday's compelling 10-10 draw with the Maori All Stars in Townsville.
Latrell Mitchell's late penalty goal was enough to tie the game with just two minutes remaining, but there was confusion from the players and coaches as to whether the field goal option was there to win the game.
"I didn't know that there wasn't a golden point. I just probably thought it was going to be just normal rules," Daley said.
"We wanted to actually go for the try but we don't know what happened on the field."
Daley also added that, with the intensity of the game and how passionate players are, rule changes are warranted for an end result.
His men are playing for their respective cultures and people, dissimilar to running out for clubs.
Maori's coach David Kidwell and Cody Walker, who captained Daley's side, also thought it was a golden point scenario.
But while neither coach was hung up on the result, both men were clear on what the future holds for the event.
"It's a game that, for me, had a bit of everything and had a bit of Test match and had a bit of Origin and had a bit of our own brand," Daley said.
"What makes it so willing and so inspiring is that you can sit around and watch it, and it's unique and will build and get bigger and better.
"The modern footballers they just prepare so well, to get themselves in the right shape and I'm in awe of them actually because as a first game of the year, to give us quality contests like this is pretty special."
Kidwell added that New Zealanders would get behind the event if it were held over there.
"It would be wonderful if we could it take back to New Zealand and showcase our culture to our Indigenous brothers," Kidwell said.
"I'm sure we'd pack it out there too so hopefully that's in the near future, and I'm sure you know our people will get behind this concept."
