The VCT 2026: Americas Stage 2 group stage is officially done and dusted. NRG and Leviatán eased through Group Alpha to claim their playoff berths in commanding fashion, while 100 Thieves and LOUD had to fight tooth and nail in Group Omega to join them. With the group-stage playoff spots now confirmed across both pools, the path to Champions Shanghai is beginning to take shape.

How the group stage played out
In Group Alpha, NRG picked up a 2-0 victory over ENVY (6-13 Breeze, 9-13 Haven in ENVY's favor reversed to NRG's), and Leviatán dismantled Evil Geniuses in convincing back-to-back map wins (5-13 Split, 5-13 Sunset). Neither Alpha leader dropped a map in their final matches, finishing the group stage as the strongest-looking sides in the Americas region heading into the playoff bracket. Pretty smooth sailing for both teams.
Group Omega, on the other hand, was a different story. It was fast, furious and came down to the wire. LOUD's path to the playoffs ran through a tense three-map series against KRÜ Esports, winning 13-9 on Lotus before dropping Breeze 17-15 in overtime, then closing it out 13-3 on Sunset. That same group also produced back-to-back losses for Evil Geniuses against both Leviatán and MIBR (12-14 Haven, 2-13 Ascent in the latter), which created the kind of bracket chaos that made every remaining result matter.
100 Thieves had to overcome a few hurdles, too. A 2-0 loss to Cloud9 earlier in the group stage (Haven and Sunset going C9's way) put real pressure on their playoff push. They recovered when it counted, though, setting up a decisive final-day match against LOUD with a spot on the line.
What this means for the playoff bracket
The Stage 2 format rewards consistent group finishers with better seeding in the next round. NRG and Leviatán's dominant runs through Alpha should see them benefit from favorable starting positions in the double-elimination playoff bracket, which runs from August 27 through September 5 at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles.
LOUD and 100 Thieves won’t benefit from better seeding but both sides have now proven they can close out high-pressure series.
The playoff field also includes four Challenger teams entering through the Play-In bracket, which begins August 13 and concludes on August 23. Those spots are held by La Masia (Challengers Brazil), M80 (Challengers NA), BESTIA (Challengers LATAM), and 2Game Esports (Americas Last Chance Qualifier).
The prize pool and points on the line
For teams still fighting for their VCT futures, the stakes are significant. The playoff structure carries both prize money and Championship Points that feed into overall standings ahead of Champions Shanghai.

The top two finishers earn direct qualification to Champions Shanghai. NRG enters the playoffs in the best position to convert that opportunity, though Leviatán have looked sharp enough to challenge anyone in the field.
Writer's take
It’s easy to say now but, looking back, Group Alpha's results were predictable. NRG's form has been consistent all tournament, while Leviatán have barely blinked. Group Omega, though, produced exactly the kind of pressure-cooker finish that makes VALORANT worth watching. The fact that both 100 Thieves and LOUD came through it means playoff viewership should be high.
It's also telling that G2 Esports, who had matched up against LOUD earlier in the stage, didn't carry enough momentum to disrupt the eventual qualifiers. The group stage has done its job of separating the field.
