NPHET to discuss July 20 Ireland pubs reopening and when decision will be revealed

NPHET will today meet to discuss the latest easing of restrictions which is currently scheduled for Monday, July 20.

Pubs will be allowed open along with casinos in the final stage on Ireland's reopening roadmap.

The phase may not get the green light however with Dr Ronan Glynn saying on Monday evening that it was too early to decide just yet.

The acting Chief Medical Officer said: "It is still too early to say, we’ve a full week to go. We are monitoring the situation. We are concerned about increasing cases over the last five days.

"We are looking at the increase in cases, the profile of cases, where they are coming from, the reproductive number appears to be increasing, the five-day average for new cases is increasing.”

A decision is unlikely to be made today with experts expected to monitor cases for the rest of the week before an announcement on Thursday or Friday.

Some pubs have already hit out at the lack of guidance from the Government ahead of the proposed reopenings.

The Licensed Vintners Association said: "Only one week until pubs are due to reopen. Still no guidelines. These are urgently required for pubs, for their staff and for their customers. The silence is deafening and creating real concern and frustration in the industry."
