Twelve Japanese professional baseball teams will aim at starting this year's regular season on April 24, the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) organization said Monday.
"The Central and Pacific leagues concurred on working toward realizing an April 24 start of this year's regular season," NPB Commissioner Atsushi Saito said at a press conference held after a meeting of representatives from the 12 teams in Tokyo.
The season was initially planned to begin on March 20, but it was postponed due to countermeasures against the spread of infections from the novel coronavirus. The NPB was studying the possibility of opening the season on several different schedules after April 10.
