Now you too can have a speedboat in your garage

Garages tend not to have aesthetic appeal. They huddle at the side of our houses, the slightly slouchy but serviceable annexes to the bit we call home. But now a German company has paid heed and is producing photographic tarpaulins that turn even the most forlorn carport into, well, an airport, a boat port, even a stable or a Provencal scene.

The tarpaulins were the brainchild of Thomas Sassenbach, who, driving through his home town of Cologne one day, was aghast at the endless rows of drab, grey garages and "decided to do something about it".

Now the number of visitors to his website, style-your-garage.com, has risen tenfold since the company's launch last year and the £145 tarpaulins are selling all over Europe and in the US. All you need is an up-and-over garage door, and the consent of your housemate.
