Now You See Me was one of the more pleasant surprises of 2013. It boasted a killer cast and turned out to be a sleeper hit at the box office. No wonder they wanted a sequel. They went ahead and made it and now, the first trailer has been revealed.
Just to remind you how awesome the first movie was, the trailer slaps around 20 of its 60 seconds with footage from the first film. Honestly, we only realised we were seeing fresh stuff when we noticed J Daniel Atlas’ Lex Luthor haircut.

Sequels traditionally need to be able to stand on their own, independent of the earlier installments. They need to up the ante, introduce new characters, foes, locations and stakes. By the looks of it Now You See Me 2 (sadly not called Now You See Me: The Second Act as was rumoured), in the 40 seconds it has left to work with checks all these notches.
Who cares if they tried to sleight-of-hand Lizzy Caplan in place of Isla Fisher (didn’t notice that, did you?), they’ve embraced what made the original film exciting and built on it. They’ve even used all that extra money for some slick effects, because while the effects in the first movie were goofy, they weren’t really up to the mark.
Now You See Me 2 is directed by Jon Chu (he’s coming off of one of the worst performers at the BO ever with his Jem and the Holograms), who previously directed a couple of Justin Beiber documentaries and the GI Joe sequel, so, meh.

Also, we would like to congratulate the person who cast Daniel Radcliffe as what appears to be a villain. Inspired choice.
Now You See Me 2 sees returning players Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. They’re joined by Lizzy Caplan, Jay Chou and Daniel Radcliffe. The film is slated for a June 10, 2016 release.
