Now TV: Football fans complain of Sky Sports Pass outage as Premier League returns

Hundreds of football fans were unable to watch the Premier League's restart after experiencing problems with NowTV.

According to outage tracker website Downdector, customers began to complain that they could not buy the streaming service's "Sports Pass" from around 5.40pm this evening.

It came just 20 minutes before Aston Villa kicked off against Sheffield United behind closed doors at Villa Park, in the first Premier League game for 100 days.

At the daily Downing Street briefing, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden welcomed tonight's return of top-tier football but said there would be "nothing to be gained from crowding outside stadiums'.

However, as people turned to their screens to watch the match from home, some were faced with a message on the Now TV website which read: "Oops something went wrong".

Jamie Talbot shared the problem on Twitter writing: "Can't buy the sports pass from Now TV anyone else getting issues?"

Mathew Blakemore said: "@nowtvhelp I’m trying to take up your £25 per month offer and I keep getting told ‘oops something went wrong’"

Sam Myers wrote angrily: "Now TV you’ve had three months to prepare for the return of the PL and the site has is down. Nice one."

Another user wrote: "@nowtvhelp trying to sign up for now TV but the website keeps saying something went wrong , refreshed loads of times"

The service replied to customers on Twitter, saying: "This is a known issue and our team are working hard to fix this for you. Hopefully we have a fix soon."

A NOW TV spokesperson said: “We are aware of an issue whereby some customers are receiving an error message when attempting to purchase a NOW TV Pass via the NOW TV site.

"Our teams are currently working hard to fix this and we will keep you updated at help.nowtv.com. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Manchester City play Arsenal at 8pm this evening.
