Now the saleyard is auctioned

The dismantled remnants of Southern Tasmania's largest saleyard were auctioned at Bridgewater today.

Roberts livestock are selling off the fencing, gates, buildings and infrastructure at the saleyard which held it's last livestock sale in May.

Roberts Ltd. have established a state of the art, animal welfare friendly saleyard at Powranna in Northern Tasmania, but many smaller livestock producers say the prohibitive.

David Skinner has been in the agency business for more than 60 years. He was one of the agents who negotiated the establishment of the saleyards back in 1964 and was at the sale to see it's dismantling.

Many sale goers described it as a sad day, but is it all in the name of progress?
