Now, OSL owner's son held in Paradip port bribery case

BHUBANESWAR: The CBI on Saturday arrested Charchit Mishra, director of Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) and youngest son of industrialist Mahimananda Mishra, in an alleged bribery case involving a top official of Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and the cargo handling company.

Besides Charchit, the CBI also arrested Sisir Das, a builder, taking the number of those taken into custody to six, a day after the agency arrested four persons, including PPA's chief mechanical engineer Saroj Das, in connection with the case.

Charchit was taken on a four-day remand for further interrogation so as to get information in regard to a conspiracy allegedly hatched by OSL in connivance with Saroj to get a damaged conveyor belt repaired at PPA's cost.

Mahimananda, his eldest son grilled again

Charchit planned it as it would have been very expensive for OSL to repair the conveyor belt, which had been reportedly damaged by its own workers while unloading cargo. For this, a bribe amount of Rs 25 lakh was fixed.

CBI sleuths said Sisir, remanded in custody for four days, had received Rs 10 lakh bribe money from Sumanta Rout, said to be Saroj's conduit and is currently in agency custody, to book a property for Saroj in Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, Mahimananda and his eldest son Chandan were quizzed again on Saturday in connection with the bribery case. They two were allowed to leave the CBI office in the afternoon.

The CBI has registered cases against seven persons, out of which six have been arrested. All those arrested have been booked under various IPC sections as well as those under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
