Now it's Raiders green pies and tricolour tarts

Where is the green pie?

In Wanniassa, of course.

On Friday we have a Canberra team playing a Melbourne team in Queensland for a berth in the NRL grand final. The game kicks off at 6.50pm Queensland time - that's 7.50pm Canberra time.

COVID-19, with a dose of daylight saving, is making things just a little convoluted in the rugby league world.

If it's all just a bit too confusing, let's go back to back to basics.

Green pies.

Not content with only baking green bread to spur the Canberra Raiders on to a second consecutive grand final berth, Wanniassa baker Quan Nguyen has extended his lime-tinged repertoire.

There are now hot green pies, the lime-coloured pastry a homage to the Raiders, the green not quite extending to inside.

"It's been really, really good. People are loving it," he said.

"I advertised back on Wednesday that the green pies were coming, and we had orders coming on Monday and Tuesday so people can pick up today and get ready for Friday night."

He had about 200 pies pumping out of the oven on Wednesday.

And why not pick up a Green Machine tricoloured neenish tart while you're at it?

"The tart, I created last Sunday," he said.

"The three colours took a long time but it's worth it, people love it."

Quan is one of the Raiders' biggest fans, but even he can't allow himself to get beyond Friday night and the possibility of the Green Machine making its second grand final in a row.

"You know what? It's really hard to talk about it," he said with a smile.

"Because I want to keep it inside. I don't want to be over-confident. Keep it inside. See how they do. Touch wood."
