PANAJI: In an attempt to bring the academic schedule back on track after pandemic-caused disruptions, Goa University has curtailed the syllabus for general stream undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by 20% for the academic year 2021-22.
The instructional days have also been cut down, and the new academic year will now begin earlier from July 20, as against the first week of August as per the previous circular.
“In view of the reduction of the instructional days, only 80% of the prescribed syllabus shall be included for the examinations, details of which will be communicated shortly. Academic year 2022-23 commences from July 20, 2022,” GU said.
This is applicable to BA, BSc (including home science), BCom, BA BEd, BCA students, etc, at the undergraduate level.
At the postgraduate level, the circular will be applicable to students of MA, MSc, MCom, MPA.
The instructional days have been reduced to 72 up to May 31, 2022, which will mark the end of the second term. Examinations will be conducted from June 6 to July 5 and students will enjoy their vacation up to July 19.
“Paper setting/conduct of exam for final year to be done by respective colleges. Suggested dates for supplementary exams to begin from July 25, 2022. Suggested date for declaration of results for FY/SY is July 10, 2022. Final year projects to be submitted by May 20, 2022, and external examiner shall be provided with seven days’ time before conducting the viva-voce,” states the circular.
Earlier, the University and College Teachers’ Association of Goa (UCTAG) had said that too much of a delay in the academic year could lead to waste of the year for students. The association said that it may be too late in the academic year for the students to seek entry to other higher education programmes.
The new academic year was to begin from August as per GU’s earlier announced schedule.
The UCTAG had said that at the school level, the academic schedule has been brought back to its pre-pandemic dates, but similar rectifications are yet to be done by the university.
