BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh government on Monday launched Aadhar-based faceless online learner's licence facility.
Applicants will no longer need to visit regional transport offices (RTOs) for learner's permit.
A formal program was held at the headquarters of state transport department at Gwalior for its official launch.
Transport commissioner Mukesh Jain told media that more than 10 lakhs people would be benefited by this new facility wherein they would be able to get their learner’s license sitting for a test from home using an Aadhaar-based authentication mechanism.
In March, the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) had released a notification allowing certain services to be availed completely online via Aadhar authentication, including driving license and certificate of registration.
Annually, the state transport department issues around 10 lakh learner's licenses. Equal number of cars and bikes in the non-transport category are registered in MP.
Notification issued by Central ministry on March 3, 2021 says, the use of Aadhaar as identity document simplifies the Government delivery processes, brings in transparency and efficiency, and enables applicants to get their work done directly in a convenient seamless manner, and Aadhaar obviates the need for producing multiple documents to prove one’s identity.
“Any individual desirous of availing various contactless services mentioned through the portal is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication:
Provided that till the time Aadhaar is assigned to the individual, benefits of contactless services shall be given to such individuals subject to the production of Aadhaar Enrolment ID slip” reads notification.
The notification further stated that "in order to provide convenient and hassle-free services to the citizen, the ministry shall make all the required arrangements for wide publicity through media and individual notices to make citizens aware of the requirements of Aadhaar for availing contactless services through implementing agencies".
