Now, Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) test facility available at Almora Medical College; service to help in detection of chronic diseases at an early stage

ALMORA: The Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) test facility has been launched at the Almora Medical College (AMC). This test helps in the detection of chronic diseases, like cancer, at an early stage. Before the launch of this facility, patients were forced to go to Haldwani to get the test done. The new facility will save the patients time and money.

Dr Vinay Kumar, head of department, pathology, AMC, told TOI that the FNAC test identifies cancerous lumps that go undetected in ultrasound or CT-scan. He added that early symptoms of lung cancer have already been detected among 25 patients through the FNAC test at the hospital.

The FNAC is performed by scraping the inner layers of the lump with a fine needle and examining them under a microscope.
