Agartala: A few hours after the attack on the younger brother of the BJP’s minority cell leader who recently joined the Trinamool Congress, BJP cadres allegedly attacked several houses in Belonia of South Tripura on Saturday night for taking part in a CPM rally.

A teacher and his family were attacked, a jobless teacher’s house vandalised and an SFI leader, Sourav Chakraborty, was beaten up in Paikhola.
CPM leader Tapas Datta said, “We held a massive rally yesterday in Belonia just three days after the BJP claimed that 1,394 Left supporters have joined them. Not a single person has joined the BJP which staged a drama with its own cadres. Today’s rally exposed the BJP badly. Finding no other alternative, they attacked us.”
The person, identified as Shubankar Debnath, was shifted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday night. Mujibur is undergoing treatment in Agartala and said to be out of danger, TMC MP Dr Santanu Sen said.
BJP vice-president and senior MLA Ramprasad Jamatia denied the allegations of the CPM and Trinamool Congress on the attacks and said, “Both the incidents are results of inter-party feuds. They are just shifting the blame on us. We are requesting them to lodge a specific FIR against the criminals. The Trinamool Congress is instigating the situation in coordination with the CPM.”
