Novice Lanarkshire DJ to perform debut gig at Glasgow’s Sub Club

A budding young Kirkwood DJ is gearing up for his debut performance at Glasgow's iconic Sub Club venue next week.

Kane Kirkpatrick will perform his debut gig at the iconic venue this Thursday (November 11), and the talented former St Andrew’s High pupil says he is “buzzing” in the lead up to his big XL night.

And he is sure to be cheered on by his proud parents Barry and Angelene and siblings, Kai and Kayla.

Kane told Lanarkshire Live : “The Sub Club is renowned as a big institution for electronic music.

"I’ve only been DJ-ing for the past two years now, so it’s a huge deal for me. My little brother Kai and little sister Kayla are planning to come and support me.

"They are absolutely buzzing about it and my mum and dad used to go to the venue when they were younger which has been open since 1987."

Kane said he hoped his parents would be there to support, but joked: "I think they think they are too old for it. I don’t think it’s their cup of tea anymore."

He went on to say: “The guys from All U Need did a homelessness fundraiser in Glasgow and they promote young DJs and talents and they have a residency every Thursday.

"It’s house, techno and electronic music; all different kinds.

“I’m inspired by Scottish DJs Harri and Domenic; they have played in the Sub Club every Saturday. The Sub Culture night, I think, is the longest and most legendary night in the Scottish music scene.

“I’ve been DJ-ing for about two years now and I’ve got my own club night called Animate with my pals, Gerry Kearns, Lewis Sands, and Ryan Kane. We are hoping to team up with other DJs in Scotland.

“We are all into the same type of music; disco, house and techno. We started last Friday at Club 69 in Paisley and we sold out for that. We will be playing our next gig at the Mash House in Edinburgh on November 23.”

The 24-year-old DJ has been passionate about creating music since he was a teenager.

He told us: “I originally used to be in bands, then I met a guy called Brendan Campbell, from Helensburgh, about five or six years ago when I was just 18. Brendan got me into DJing; we only met by chance, but it has created a nice wee community with everybody.”

And the young Kirkwood DJ is excited to be performing on the same bill alongside legendary Ayrshire DJ Ewan McVicar, who will headline the venue later this month.

He enthused: “His song Tell Me Something Good has just hit the UK top 40 and he’s playing the Sub Club two weeks after me.

“It’s actually weird; now I’m finally getting the chance to play there because I’ve been going down there every Thursday, and they have given me a chance to perform.”
