WIMBLEDON, England Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12 to win his fifth Wimbledon championship on Sunday at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The win ties him for second most in Wimbledon history with Bjorn Borg, and gives him his 16th Grand Slam singles title, for which he ranks third.
Federer was looking to extend his records of eight Wimbledon and 20 major titles.
Wimbledon instituted the fifth-set tiebreak at 12-12 in a vote last October.
