Novak Djokovic admitted that Wimbledon could prove his ‘best chance’ to claim a record-breaking 25th major title.
The Serb, now 38, is an eight-time Wimbledon champion and enters this year’s edition as sixth seed.
A first win at the tournament since 2022 would see him become the most successful player in major history, with 25 titles. He currently shares that honour with Australia’s Margaret Court.
With the end of his career approaching, though, Djokovic believes Wimbledon could be his last chance at clinching that honour.
"I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance.
"That's because of the results I have had, because of how I feel and how I play in Wimbledon.
"I get an extra push mentally and motivation to perform the best tennis at the highest level."
Djokovic, who last won a major at the 2023 US Open, will embark on his Wimbledon campaign on Tuesday, facing France’s Alexandre Muller.
His tournament will likely be remembered, though, for meetings with Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz.
The pair have taken over from tennis’ big three as the sport’s defining rivals, leaving Djokovic playing catch-up.
But the Serb is out to prove that he’s still got what it takes.
He continued: "In a sense you're always hunting because you're always going for the titles - in my also privileged position - the records and more history.
"I do feel that I'm always in that position of going for something with the attitude of trying to win rather than trying to defend.
"It is slightly different for me now in terms of I don't chase the rankings any more.
"I'm trying to play the best tennis in Grand Slams and trying to win Grand Slams. That hasn't changed. It still stays the same."
