Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal Saudi Arabia exhibition tennis match cancelled

Novak Djokovic has confirmed that an exhibition match between him and Rafael Nadal in Saudi Arabia has been cancelled due to the Spaniard’s injury.

Djokovic and Nadal, the two top ranked players in the world, were due to meet in a one-off exhibition in Jeddah on December 22.

Amnesty International had condemned plans for the game following the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

Djokovic said of the contest: "Yeah, it's not happening,” and confirmed that was due to Nadal’s injury.

Nadal withdrew from the ATP Finals after undergoing ankle surgery last week.

His place has been taken by American John Isner, who will compete at the season-ending tournament for the first time.

With Nadal not featuring in the competition Djokovic is now guaranteed to end the year as world No.1 and the Serb, winner of Wimbledon and the US Open, is hot favourite to win the ATP title.
