Novak Djokovic 'refusing to leave Australia' and will 'stay in prison as long as need be'

Novak Djokovic is reportedly refusing to leave Australia as the row over his deportation status continues in the country.

According to reports from Down Under, Djokovic is currently discussing the situation with his lawyers after he won an appeal against deportation from Australia on Monday morning, with a judge ordering he be released from hotel detention in Melbourne.

Journalist Ksenija Pavlovic McAteer later reported that the world No.1 had been re-arrested despite the ruling, reports The Star.

She then posted a message reportedly from Djokovic's father suggesting his son won't leave Australia and that he will 'stay in prison' as long as is deemed necessary.

"Novak won't leave Australia. He will continue to fight this and stay in prison as long as it's needed," Srdjan Djokovic, told US reporter Ksenija McAteer.

McAteer reported that after the ruling, which went in Djokovic's favour, 'they', presumably immigration officials, 'came to arrest him' but 'Djokovic refused to leave the country and be deported.'

She added that the 34-year-old is now with his lawyers.

Alex Hawke, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, was given four hours to decide whether to exercise his "personal power of cancellation" over Djokovic's status after ruling.

As yet he has not exercised that power, it is understood.
