Djokovic wins second set and match!
Second set: Djokovic 6-1
A pair of elementary winners by Djokovic put him within two points of the match. Feels casual at this point. An incredible angled cross-court winner from well outside the court gives Djokovic three match points, but he needs only one as Sock overcooks a passing attempt and the ball lands well beyond the baseline. With that Djokovic has the easy win. Fifty-four minutes. Only three games conceded. Clinical.
Djokovic breaks!
Second set: *Djokovic 5-1 Sock (*denotes next server)
Sock coming apart at the seams a bit here as he drops two quick points on serve to fall behind 0-30. Gets one back on a Djokovic error, but sprays an inside-out forehand far wide to give Novak a pair of break-point chances at 15-40. Djokovic pounces on the second serve, fights his way into the rally and earns the break when Sock nets a forehand. This one could be over shortly.
Second set: Djokovic 4-1 Sock* (*denotes next server)
A sharply struck winner from Sock gives the American a glimmer of hope at 0-15, but a pair of Djokovic winners reverse the tide. Another unforced error by Sock gives Djokovic a pair of game points at 40-15. He only needs one as Sock dumps a backhand into the net.
Djokovic breaks!
Second set: *Djokovic 3-1 Sock (*denotes next server)
Sock moves ahead 30-15 but encountering far more resistance from Djokovic than previous service games. Another Sock error makes it 30-30, then Djokovic earns his fourth break-point chance of the match at 30-40. Novak sprays a shot wide to pull it to deuce, but a Sock error gives the world No1 another look at a break point. This time Djokovic makes him pay, extending the rally from the baseline until Sock blinks first. There’s the break, and things have gone from grim to worse for the American.
Second set: Djokovic 2-1 Sock* (*denotes next server)
An apparent Sock winner is ruled wide when the ball mark is checked (and confirmed by Hawk-Eye). Two more Djokovic points in rapid succession make it 40-0, followed by a loosely played Sock error from the baseline to give Novak the hold at love.
Second set: *Djokovic 1-1 Sock (*denotes next server)
Three quick points to Sock – highlighted by a gorgeously played drop-shot volley winner at 15-0 – give the American a 40-0 edge. Djokovic shows his nerve to save the first two break points, but nets a forehand from the baseline to give Sock the game.
Second set: Djokovic 1-0 Sock* (*denotes next server)
Djokovic picks up right where he left off in the first, quickly moving ahead 30-0 on a winner and second-set ace. Forehand winner gives him three break points. Sock saves the first two on a pair of Djokovic errors – forced and unforced, respectively – then the third when Sock rushes the net and Djokovic sprays a backhand wide. Deuce. Sock can only return a well-struck second serve into the net, giving Djokovic another game point. This time Sock can’t escape, netting a forehand to give Novak the opening game.
Djokovic breaks, wins first set!
First set: Djokovic 6-2 Sock
An error for Sock on the opening point and it feels like it’s getting away from the young American here. Djokovic forehand winner down the line makes it 0-30. He’s won 15 of the last 20 points to move within two points of the first set. A pair of Djokovic errors makes it 30-30, but Sock gives one right back and Djokovic has a set point. Sock faults and Djokovic pounces on the second serve, finding his way into the rally and forcing an approaching Sock to rush a cross-court winner attempt. It sails wide and the break – and first set – go to Djokovic.
First set: Djokovic 5-2 Sock* (*denotes next server)
At 15-0, a rally ends with both players at the net and Djokovic winning the point on an adroit passing shot. Sock pounds a forehand winner with pace to narrow it to 30-15, but a pair of Djokovic winners put him within touching distance of the first set.

Djokovic breaks!
First set: *Djokovic 4-2 Sock (*denotes next server)
Two loose points by Sock and all of a sudden the American, heretofore perfect on his serve, finds himself in a 0-30 hole. Early in the match but feels a bit critical. Djokovic errs from the baseline and it’s 15-30. Another Djokovic shot pushed long from the baseline levels the score at 30-30. Novak attempts an inside-in forehand winner but misses the line by a foot and it’s 40-30, but a Sock error on the next point brings it to deuce. A long baseline rally ends when Djokovic nails the inside-in forehand he’d missed moments earlier, pounding a winner into the corner to give him his first break-point chance. Sock saves it when Djokovic misses at the net, but Djokovic earns a second when Sock overcooks a cross-court forehand and it sails inches wide. Djokovic returns a 137mph serve and locks down the break when Sock appraoches the net and sends a running forehand wide.
First set: Djokovic 3-2 Sock* (*denotes next server)
At 15-15, the first double-digit-stroke rally of the match ends when Djokovic nets a forehand. It’s his fifth unforced error of the match to Sock’s zero. That perfection ends on the next point when Sock nets a shot to make it 30-30. Sock sprays a shot wide on the next point to make it 40-30, then dumps another groundstroke into the net to give Djokovic the hold. Pink Floyd’s Money playing on the stadium p.a. during the changeover.
First set: *Djokovic 2-2 Sock (*denotes next server)
Two quick-fire points by Sock make it 30-0. Then a well-struck second serve by the American that Djokovic can’t return into the court. Sock faults again on game point, but a Djokovic error gives him another love hold. He’s eight for eight on his serve thus far.
First set: Djokovic 2-1 Sock* (*denotes next server)
Another loose point by Djokovic gives Sock a foothold at 0-15, but Djokovic responds with an 116mph ace. Thunderous inside-out forehand by Sock paints the line and gives him a half-chance at 15-30. A Djokovic service winner knots it at 30-30, but a forehand winner up the line from Sock gives the American his first break-point opportunity of the match. Djokovic saves it with a forehand winner that Sock can get nowhere near, then forces him into an error and all of a sudden it’s game point for the world No1. Next a service winner and Djokovic has the hold after a momentary lapse there in the third game.

First set: *Djokovic 1-1 Sock (*denotes next server)
Good first serve by Sock pushes Djokovic out wide, then Sock steps into the court and wins the point with a forehand winner. Then a trio of Djokovic unforced errors on the next three point gives the American an equally simple hold.
First set: Djokovic 1-0 Sock* (*denotes next server)
Easy winner for Djokovic on the opening point. Nifty second-serve ace down the middle catches Sock flat-footed and it’s quickly 30-0. On the next point Djokovic runs the American ragged on a mid-length rally before closing it with a drop-shot volley, then seals the hold at love with a powerful forehand winner.
“Three minutes,” calls the chair umpire as the players continue their warm-ups. Not much longer now.
