World number one Novak Djokovic strolled into the second round of the US Open with a straight sets victory over Roberto Carballes Baena.
The 32-year-old didn't have everything his own way, needing 48 minutes to wrap up the first set.
But from then on, it was a case of the 16-time Grand Slam winner going through the motions as he sealed his place in the next round in under two hours of play at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic, a three-time champion at Flushing Meadows and winner last year, had been in fine form after reaching the semi-final at Roland Garros and winning Wimbledon for a fifth time.
But he came across an unflappable Spaniard in Carballes Baena, ranked 76th in the world, who gave him no quarter in the first set.
After nine consecutive holds, Djokovic finally made the break stick following three missed chances on the break point.
Having nailed down the first set, the 16-time Grand Slam winner had some breathing room and as Carballes Baena failed to keep his level up, Djokovic found another gear needing just 27 minutes to take a two-set lead.
Carballes Baena continued to prove himself to be a tough opponent, playing some entertaining tennis at the net, but Djokovic simply turned up the heat when he wanted to.
Armed with two match points, Djokovic found the sweet spot with three forehands into the corner and the final one bounced out of reach for Carballes Baena.
Once again, the best player in the world provided yet another reminder of why he deserves that tag and looks in good shape to hold onto his US Open title.
