Notts tweets heartfelt messages for Paris as blaze takes over Notre Dame

As a an iconic piece of Paris' history goes up in flames, people across Nottinghamshire have taken to social media to share their sympathies.

Firefighters were seen battling the blaze at the Notre Dame in Paris, a 12th century cathedral, which has already suffered devastating damage.

The spire and rose glass windows have been lost in the flames, but firefighters have worked into the night to try and save the main structure.

People in Nottinghamshire sent heartfelt messages out on Twitter about the incident.

Katrina Wilkins said words failed her.

Mike Pattinson described the scenes as 'heartbreaking'.

Dan Wood added that Notre Dame was 'one of the most stunning' buildings he'd ever seen.

Ami Collier said the building had 'captivated' her since childhood.
