The farm shop that's been named one of the UK’s finest speciality retailers

A Notts shop specialising in meat, cheese, ale, bread and patisserie with almost zero food miles has been named as one of the best in the UK.

Welbeck Farm Shop, on the Welbeck estate, near Worksop, has made the shortlist of the UK’s finest speciality retailers for the Farm Shop and Deli Awards.

The winners will be announced on March 30 at the Farm Shop & Deli Show at Birmingham's NEC.

Two thirds of the shop’s items are sourced from, or prepared at, the historic Welbeck estate, with many focusing on artisan food traditions.

The estate's own meat, game and raw milk, which is used to make Stichelton blue cheese, are on sale.

There's also ale from Welbeck Abbey Brewery, plus bread and patisserie from Welbeck Bakehouse.

The awards have 11 different categories, with Welbeck Farm Shop up for Farm Shop Small Retailer accolade.

Oliver Stubbins, general manager at the farm shop, said they were thrilled to reach the finals.

"We work hard to provide the best quality food and the highest levels of service to our customers and so to appear in the shortlist of the UK’s finest speciality retailers is fantastic.

"We are so excited to have been selected for the top four in the Farm Shop Small Retailer category and we’re looking forward to the final at the end of the month.”

Other categories include baker, butcher, cheesemonger, grocer and online business.
