Notts County will only continue to grow as team bond strengthens says Wes Thomas

Notts County's comfortable win over Chorley will have given everyone around Meadow Lane a much needed boost in confidence - and none more so that Neal Ardley's forward players.

Wes Thomas, Kristian Dennis, Nathan Tyson and Enzio Boldewijn all got themselves on the scoresheet as Notts took four points from a hectic bank holiday weekend

In doing so, they stretched their unbeaten run to four games.

But while Ardley remains desperate to see his side turn draws into wins, striker Thomas says that the 5-1 victory is exactly what was needed to take the pressure off at Meadow Lane.

The former Birmingham man, 32, scored twice after coming on to replace Tyson mid-way through the second half.

“There’s a lot more to come from us. We’re growing in confidence and are still working on learning each other’s roles so it’s early days," said Thomas.

“It was a difficult start [against Chorley] but we managed to get back into it and then we stuck to what we were doing and tried to play football.

“We had to stay disciplined and got the ball moving to create opportunities instead of getting frustrated and just pumping it forwards."

Thomas' opener was his first for the Magpies and came just moments after his introduction as he arrived in the area to put away a wayward strike from Kristian Dennis.

But his second goal, a 25-yard rocket, was one to truly be proud of and will no doubt be a goal of the season contender come the end of the campaign.

“I was disappointed not to score at Ebbsfleet but I knew that I would get opportunities and, if I do, I know I’ll score," said Thomas.

“I knew that the longer the game went on their defence would tire and if I came on and was lively, I might get a couple of chances.

“That’s what happened for the first goal. I anticipated the ball going across the box and put it in the back of the net.

He added: “It’s nice to get off the mark. Hopefully there are more to come."
