Notts County topple league leaders Barrow with terrific 2-0 win

Notts County produced their best win of the season as they inflicted Barrow's first home defeat since September with a 2-0 victory at Holker Street.

The Magpies could have found themselves a goal down in the first half when Damien McCrory was penalised for a foul on Scott Quigley inside the area, but John Rooney struck the penalty against the post.

Rooney then hit the woodwork with a terrific free-kick as Notts, faced with a strong wind, failed to seriously test the Barrow defence.

But they were terrific after the break and the game swung in their favour when Quigely was sent off for a terrible challenge on goalkeeper Joe McDonnell.

Notts took full advantage of that as they moved in front as Tom Crawford's header crept past Joel Dixon.

It was then left to Callum Roberts to seal the victory when he produced a wonderful piece of individual skill to take him past three players to fire the ball into the bottom corner.

Notts had further chances to extend their lead with Roberts dragging a shot wide, while O'Brien hit the bar with a free-kick.
