Notts County too naive against National League's bullying teams despite defensive experience, says Neal Ardley

Notts County manager Neal Ardley has blamed naivety for side's failure to deal with the National League's bullying teams this season.

Ebbsfleet United, who had failed to notch a single point before Saturday's clash, twice came from behind in Kent to draw level with the Magpies.

And yet again it was the cracks in Notts' nervy defence that proved their downfall.

"I am fuming," said Ardley. "If I was a fan I would come away from this game saying that it was not good enough.

"Sam Slocombe had a clear foul against him in the first-half where a player smashed into him and it was not given. So he did not get the protection there.

"But he will be disappointed. I am not going to go on at him and I am not going to blame him for the goal.

"There were too many things before that. We gave away a silly free-kick and then we did not mark our men from the set-piece.

"It was naive. Naive is not a word I should be using for players as experienced as we have in this camp.

"We gave the fans hope today, and we could not even leave saying that we had given them a professional performance.

He added: "It was all down to us."
