Notts County tell High Court sale of club 'should be completed in about 28 days' as winding-up petition is adjourned

Notts County were given more time by the High Court in London today to complete a sale deal which will enable them to clear their massive tax bill.

The company behind the club, Notts County Football Club Ltd, owes the taxman a reported £800,000 and a winding-up petition was launched by HM Revenue & Customs after non-payment.

However, when the petition went before the court a month ago it was adjourned until today to give the company time to sort the matter out and pay-up.

Club owner Alan Hardy put the Magpies up for sale earlier this year. He had previously saved Notts from administration in 2016.

At the Insolvency and Companies Court this morning one of the country’s top insolvency judges, Judge Clive Jones, was told by a barrister for the company that it still needed more time. He was asked for a further 35 day adjournment.

He told the judge : “It is in negotiation with two parties and should be completed in about 28 days.”

Counsel for HM Revenue & Customs agreed to an adjournment as did another creditor who has supported the winding-up petition. As a result Judge Jones adjourned the hearing until 10 July “for payment in full”.
