Notts County striker Kyle Wootton has warning for Northampton Town

Kyle Wootton insists Notts County will not "hold back" in their FA Cup clash at Northampton as he targeted a dream third-round tie.

The Magpies are the underdogs going into Sunday's clash at the PTS Academy Stadium with the Cobblers currently flying high in the League Two table.

With Notts in the National League, there is a division separating the two sides and with Keith Curle's side in excellent form, it has only increased the difficultly.

But striker Wootton, who bagged his eighth and nine goals of the season in Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Boreham Wood, the on-loan Scunthorpe star says Notts are determined to cause an upset.

“We’re going there to win no matter what,” said the striker. “We’ll go and give it a right good go away from home.

“It’s a great task on Sunday and a test of where we’re at as we compare ourselves against a League Two side.

“There’ll be no holding back. It’d be great to be in the hat for the third round and, hopefully, get a good tie there – that’d be brilliant for the club.”

Wootton will be aiming to maintain his red-hot form in the second round clash which has seen him bag three goals in his last two games.

He is now the leading scorer ahead of Wes Thomas and Kristian Dennis who both have seven for the season.

“It’s brilliant competition and keeps us striving to get goals,” he smiled.

“The important thing is to score and chip in to help the team earn points.

“I was really happy with the goals I got on Tuesday because we’d worked on those patterns in training so it was brilliant to score two headers like that.

“The patience in play was there and that was matched by execution in the delivery of crosses, and I nearly had a few more when I was close to getting on the end of balls in.”
