Notts County squad seeking meeting with chairman Alan Hardy

Notts County’s players want a meeting with chairman Alan Hardy in a bid to get their own answers about the club’s future.

The squad’s June salaries  went unpaid last Friday and the Professional Footballers’ Association is now on standby to help them.

Hardy said on Monday that he hopes to liaise with the club’s prospective new owners to rectify the situation as the financial position continues to cause concern.

He says he hopes to sell the club before they return to the High Court on July 10 which would end what has been a long and drawn out saga.

The Post has now been told by a player, who was previously at the club, that his former team-mates want to speak to Hardy in attempt to get reassurances about Notts' ability to compete next season.

Notts County Manager Neal Ardley (Dan Westwell)

There is growing concern about the quality of Neal Ardley’s squad in which there are still glaring holes to be filled particularly in defence.

Youngster Pierce Bird is the only central defender with first-team experience on the books, while there is no authentic left-back or left winger.

The club has yet to make a signing which has only raised further alarm particularly as the league campaign kicks off in just under a month with other teams making plenty of new additions.

In the meantime, the likelihood is that boss Ardley will have to play some of the academy players in the club’s first pre-season friendly of the summer this weekend when they travel to Nuneaton.
