Notts County sign non-league hotshot chased by EFL clubs

Notts County have completed the signing of Bradford Park Avenue striker Lewis Knight and have beaten several Football League clubs to his signature.

The Magpies have paid a nominal fee to Park Avenue for the ex-Leeds youngster who has scored nine goals in 14 National League North games before the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Knight has been watched by several EFL teams in the last year with League Two side Bradford City said to have regularly checked in on his progress.

But manager Neal Ardley has moved quickly to land the forward who held talks with assistant boss Greg Abbott last week over a switch to Meadow Lane.

It remains unlikely that he will be involved when Notts face Halifax on Tuesday night as they work on his fitness given the National League North side has been curtailed.

Knight had been working part-time as a barista but has now returned to the full-time game after producing some excellent performances for Park Avenue.

Notts hope he will be able to follow in the footsteps of Callum Roberts who the club also signed from National League North side Blyth Spartans and is now rated as one of the hottest prospects outside the EFL.

Knight trained with his team-mates on Monday and could figure on the substitutes' bench at the weekend against Wealdstone.
