Notts County secure double signing as duo ruled out of play-off push

Joel Bagan has resumed his loan spell with to Notts County from Cardiff City while striker Scott Wilson has penned a short-term deal following his release from Oldham.

But the club has confirmed that left-back Damian McCrory and midfielder Regan Booty are set to be ruled out of the push for promotion to the Football League.

Bagan's resumption of his loan deal means he will cover for the injured McCrory while Wilson will now be eligible to play in their semi-final following his release from Oldham Atheltic.

The news comes as Magpies midfielder Booty suffered a recurrence of the back problem which troubled him earlier in the season.

Boss Neal Ardley said: “Damien was working really hard and building up his running to come back but started to get some pain in his knee.

"Maybe it was a wrong step on one of his runs, which can happen, and it got worse so we arranged a scan to assess the damage. Unfortunately, he had a slight tear to his meniscus which rules him out of the play-offs, but he’ll be fine for next season.

“We’ve spoken to Cardiff, the FA and Joel and everyone’s really keen for him to come back in. He’s kept himself fit and has looked good in the running. Hopefully he’ll push for his spot.

“Regan’s back has flared up and unfortunately he’s been unable to train. It’s been a really frustrating season for him with injury and we’re giving him the best possible care we can given the circumstances. He’s had an MRI scan and we’re waiting for the results.

“With Scott, it was simply a case of us sorting out a couple of administrative issues but that’s all resolved now and we’re glad to have him as part of our squad for the play-offs.

“I’ve said it all along – when it comes to it, the fittest, sharpest and most mentally-ready players will be the ones who start the game. My team selection will not be influenced by the fact we won our last four prior to lockdown.”

Nottinghamshire Live reported yesterday that the club were hopeful of Wilson returning to the club after originally joining the club from loan earlier this year.

And Bagan has won some stellar reviews for his performances since he joined from the Bluebirds picking up the man of the match award in the 2-0 win at Barrow in March.

Notts will play their semi-final on July 25 at Meadow Lane, which is being screened live by BT Sport. They will play either Yeovil or Barnet.
