Notts County sale moves 'a step closer'

The sale of Notts County is said to have “moved a step closer”.

The Magpies have been up for sale since January, when owner Alan Hardy said “after considerable soul-searching” he had decided to find a new buyer for the League Two club.

And, according to the BBC, a takeover is a step nearer towards completion.

Criticism has hurt Notts County players, but Enzio Boldewijn still believes Magpies can survive

They report that an “unnamed interested party has been conducting due diligence at Meadow Lane”.

It comes as the club prepare for a court date next week, on April 10, having been served with a winding-up petition by HMRC over an unpaid tax bill of £200,000.

Hardy has been at the helm at Notts since January 2017, when he rescued the club from possible extinction.

They reached the play-offs in the fourth tier last season, only to lose to Coventry City in the semi-finals, and this time around have struggled at the wrong end of the table.

Neal Ardley’s side are currently second-bottom, level on points with Yeovil Town above them, and with six games to go.

They host Northampton Town at Meadow Lane this weekend.
