Notts County's Walsall friendly to go ahead as players and manager await June salaries

Notts County’s friendly clash with Walsall will go ahead despite the manager and players still waiting for their June salaries.

The Magpies face the Saddlers in their first home pre-season clash at Meadow Lane on Saturday as they look to build on an impressive summer campaign so far.

But they do so with the club’s financial crisis continuing to show no sign of ending with boss Neal Ardley, his staff and the players still yet to be paid.

No timescale has been set as to when the squad can expect their wages, but the Professional Footballer’s Association, which is the players’ union, are helping those affected.

But  despite  the  adversity,  the squad and the manager are demonstrating incredible  unity as they await updates on a proposed takeover by a Danish consortium from brothers Alexander and Christoffer Reedtz.

This week,  the financial crisis  was raised by Nottingham MP Lilian Greenwood in Prime Minister’s  Questions as she called for an investigation from the Football Association, the National League and the Football League.

Notts fans will hope to at least put their worries behind them for 90 minutes at least by hoping the Magpies build on two impressive wins against Nuneaton and Ilkeston.

Ardley could field a number of trialists again with Nathan Tyson likely to be among them after he scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 rout over Ilkeston last week.

Winger Kyel Reid, defenders Dion Kelly-Evans, Remi Streete and  Chris Camwell could also figure.

Walsall will provide the toughest test to date for Notts so far with the Saddlers having been relegated to League Two last season.

Manager Darrell Clarke is expected to name a strong side for the visit to Meadow Lane having had a busy summer in the transfer market.

Jack Rose, Shay Facey, James Clarke, Mat Sadler, Cameron Pring, Jack Kiersey, Danny Guthrie, Stuart Sinclair, James Hardy, Wes McDonald and Elijah Adebayo have already put pen to paper.

Ticket prices are: Adults £10,  60s and over £7, 18-21 £7, under-18s £4,  while under-12s are £1.
