Notts County's players must learn to trust each other to play the Neal Ardley way

Notts County's players must learn to trust each other if they are to turn National League draws into wins.

That is the message from manager Neal Ardley as the Magpies prepare for their Bank Holiday Monday clash with Chorley at Meadow Lane.

His side were held to a 2-2 draw with Ebbsfleet on Saturday in a game that could have been a dominant victory in Kent, were it not for sloppy defending and missed chances in front of goal.

In recent weeks Ardley has been working hard to get his thrown-together Notts players feeling like a family with regular out-of-hours meet-ups to promote the camaraderie.

But now he wants his players to trust each other on the pitch to help implement the style of play that he believes can lead Notts to National League success.

"The strikers did not do enough holding the ball up and the midfielders and defenders did not play with enough quality," said Ardley as he reflected on Saturday's draw with Ebbsfleet.

"If you do not play with enough quality, if you do not trust each other then you will not win football games.

"And we did not trust eachother.

"In the past we have trusted each other, we have moved the ball well and we have played through the lines.

"I keep telling the strikers that if they do not get hold of the ball, even picking up scrappy balls, then we will not be able to create chances for them.

He added: "We just did not do it [against Ebbsfleet]. That was both the quality and the trust - and as a team we became disjointed."
