Notts County's Kion Etete intensifies Spurs speculation as he joins development squad for South Africa tournament

Notts County striker Kion Etete has intensified speculation he is set for a move to Spurs this summer after joining their development squad for a tournament in South Africa.

The forward was named in Spurs’ 18-man party for the Terborg Tournament which takes place over three days and begins with a game against Ajax Cape Town.

It will be the second time the 17-year-old has figured for the Premier League side having scored twice in a 5-3 victory over West Ham for their Under-18s squad back in March.

Notts’ previous academy head Jon Goodman, who is now at Spurs in a similar role, is thought to have played a key role in inviting him to the north London club.

The Magpies would demand a six-figure fee for the striker who made his senior debut for Notts under previous manager Harry Kewell last season.

His bow came in a Checkatrade Trophy clash against Newcastle and he figured regularly on the substitutes’ bench in the first half of the season.

Etete had also been linked with Nottingham Forest in the January window as part of the deal which brought Virgil Gomis to Meadow Lane.

Should a deal for Etete be completed it will be the second time an academy player has been sold to a Premier League club in less than a year.

Last summer highly-rated Chinese prospect Dongda He completed a move to Wolves for an undisclosed fee.
