Notts County's game against Bromley postponed following Queen Elizabeth II's death

Notts County's game with Bromley and all other National League fixtures scheduled for this weekend have been postponed following the tragic passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen served as the head of the Royal Family for 70 years, making her Britain's longest-serving monarch. The UK has now entered a national period of mourning which will last until the funeral - traditionally held 10 days later - after her passing at Balmoral on Thursday evening.

In light of the passing, the National League have taken the decision to reschedule all games scheduled in that period. There are also confirmed protocols in place around horse racing and cricket.

An official statement from the National League read: "Firstly, the National League sends sincere condolences of all Member Clubs on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to His Majesty King Charles III and the further Royal Family.

"Further to this morning’s statement by Debbie Hewitt, chair of The Football Association, all National League System, FA Trophy, and grassroots fixtures scheduled for this weekend will not take place as a mark of respect. The Queen was the FA’s patron, and Prince William is its President.

"At this moment National League fixtures will go ahead as planned from Monday 12 September onwards although we understand no sporting event of any kind will be permitted on the day of The Queen’s funeral.

"The decision to postpone this weekend’s fixtures is taken in line with guidance from the FA in consultation with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The League fully supports this stance."

After the death of George VI in 1952, rugby and hockey fixtures were called off, while football matches went ahead. Fans sang Abide With Me and the national anthem before kick off at matches. All games, including golf, will be banned in the Royal Parks.

Following Princess Diana's death on Sunday, August 31, 1997, the Liverpool vs Newcastle United Premier League match scheduled to kick off later that day was postponed. Football League fixtures the following weekend were moved to avoid clashing with Diana's funeral. The Premier League was on an international break.
