Notts County respond as Magpies fans fume over Eli Sam FIFA decision

Notts County striker Elisha Sam has missed out on a Puskas award nomination despite scoring one of the best goals Meadow Lane has witnessed in its history.

The Magpies forward scored an outrageous backheeled volley in the FA Trophy win over Oxford City last season which had fans across the world marvelling at its brilliance.

FIFA's official Twitter account shared footage of the goal as did actor Hugh Grant and many supporters had believed he was a shoo-in for a Puskas award which recognises goals of aesthetic beauty.

But the list of nominees was published today and Sam's name was not on the list of contenders sparking plenty of reaction on social media.

Notts' official Twitter account Retweeted the list of nominees with a video of Sam's goal with the message 'justice for Eli'.

And fans were quick to also questions of the panel who decide which goals are included.

Dave Hartsholme said: "How could you not have Eli Sam’s goal in this list? Would appreciate an explanation."

And Darren Bristol added: "C’mon @FIFAcom If you can’t do it for Eli and us; at least do it for the 12,843 @NFFC fans that are waiting in the wings to take credit! #justiceforeli."

Luke Foster asked: "How on earth did this not at least get nominated?!"
