Notts County recall goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons just a week into Chesterfield on loan

Notts County have recalled goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons from his loan spell at Chesterfield  after Sam Slocombe suffered an injury in training.

Fitzsimons only joined the Spireites last week, but has been summoned back to Meadow Lane and will now be expected to face Dagenham tomorrow.

It is understood that Slocombe’s injury is not thought to be serious, but is sufficient enough to rule him out of the Magpies' trip to face Daryl McMahon's side.

The news comes after manager Neal Ardley explained how Fitzsimons had instigated his move to Chesterfield because he was unhappy  at being the club’s number two.

"If someone doesn’t want to be here you have to make decisions and we made sure it was on our terms," he said.

“We said ‘yes, you can go, but if ever we need you we have a 24-hour call-back’."

Fitzsimons was on the bench for the Spireites’ win over Eastleigh last week, but now has the chance to aid Notts’ promotion push with the Magpies currently sixth in the National League table.

They can go 10 games unbeaten in all competitions tomorrow if they avoid defeat at the Daggers in what will be the third game between the sides this season.

Notts have beaten them on each occasion so far, winning 2-1 in the FA Trophy a fortnight ago, and beating them 2-0 in the league last October.
