Neal Ardley says his Notts County players can go down in folklore if they keep the club in the Football League this weekend.
In a defiant message, the Magpies boss says his players can “achieve something incredible” if they beat Swindon tomorrow and Macclesfield lose against Cambridge.
That scenario would keep Notts from being relegated to the National League, which would be against all the odds of a gruelling season both on and off the pitch.

And rather than worry about the worst possible outcome, Magpies boss Ardley says he is trying to drill into his players they could be on the verge of the greatest escape in their history.
“That’s what I am trying to get across rather than a sense of failure,” he said.
“I am working on the fact that we have taken it to the last game and could achieve something incredible in their careers.
“Whether it be players like Michael Doyle at 37 or Sam Stubbs at 22, something remarkable could happen that you will take with you.

“If the worst case happens, I still think you will learn and be better for it.
“I know I have gone on record trying to protect the players who have come in since January, knowing the situation and have given everything.
“I will continue to do that with this group.”
