Notts County player ratings: Fine display from Brindley on debut while Wootton stars

Sam Slocombe 6

The only shot he had to face in the first half came from Cameron King which came straight at him, but he turned it behind for a corner. Other than that had very little to do.

Damien McCrory 7

Couple of passes let him down, but he squandered a golden chance in the first half when the ball seemed to get caught in between his thighs from a cross. Superb in the second half.

Mitch Rose 7

Grew into the game after a slow start. Plays the enforcer and his strength and presence seem well suited to this league. Passing was more miss than hit early on but got a lot better.

Ben Turner 8

Could have scored in the opening minutes with a header from a Jim O’Brien corner. Defended brilliantly and continues to get better with every game. Absolutely solid until injury ended his afternoon.

Jim O’Brien 9

Very busy and industrious. Ideas were right but sometimes execution let him down but always looked for openings and very positive in everything he did. Was a monster after the break.

Wes Thomas 8

The best of the Notts forwards. Comes alive around the penalty area and caused plenty of problems. Denied a great goal by a fine save from Sam Johnson. Great performance.

Michael Doyle 6

The Irishman does a lot of good work for the team that often goes unseen. Always gets stuck in but was sent off for a foul on Charlie Cooper when he was having a good game.

Enzio Boldewijn 7

Produced a couple of fantastic crosses one of which McCrory should have scored from in the first half. Can see he is being asked to come in off the touchline and worked so hard.

Kyle Wootton puts Notts ahead. (Ritchie Sumpter)

Kyle Wootton 8

Had a shot in the first minute which won Notts  a corner. Did an excellent job of playing with his back to goal and scored with great composure. Did a super job throughout.

Sam Graham 7

Won plenty of headers. Sometimes looks panicked when in possession but that’s not what he’s in the team for. Very rarely looked flustered by Halifax’s attack and was rock solid.

Richard Brindley 8

Excellent debut from the right-back who saw a free-kick saved and delivered some excellent balls into the box from wide positions.  A fine display.

Subs: Connell Rawlinson 7

Came on at a key time at the game and immediately settled into the pace of it. Used his experience well to help see out the win.

Regan Booty 7

Was only on the pitch for six minutes but made his presence felt by getting stuck in to thwart any late Halifax momentum.

Subs:  Fitzsimons. Dennis, Bakayogo
