Notts County player ratings as Magpies beat Chorley in FA Trophy

Notts County came from a goal down to win 2-1 against Chorley to progress to the fourth round of the FA Trophy.

The Magpies went behind early on, with Connor Hall finishing smartly beyond Brad Young, only for Sam Austin to net his third cup goal of the season with a brilliantly anticipated finish.

And the scoring ended on the night deep into first half injury time, with Aaron Nemane's drilled cross into the area ricocheting off the unfortunate Scott Leather to send Notts through to the next round.

Ahead of kick-off, Luke Williams made six changes to the side that beat Gateshead a week ago, with John Bostock coming in for his first start while there was a place on the bench for U19's midfielder, Madou Cisse.

And the experienced midfielder almost marked his first start with a goal, meeting Tobi Adebayo-Rowling's cross with a firm header that was well-saved by Matt Urwin.

But for all of Notts' possession, it was the visitors who took the lead following a mistake from Adebayo-Rowling. A loose touch forced a throw in, with the ball eventually falling to Leather who delivered a perfect cross for Hall to slide beyond Young.

The Magpies' possession was eventually awarded just after the half-hour mark, with Austin reacting quickest to Cedwyn Scott's initial effort to add to his two goals scored in the FA Cup against Coalville.

The first-half comeback was complete just before the half-time whistle. Austin picked out an incisive pass down the right for Nemane to chase on to, with the Frenchman firing a cross into the area which was diverted by Leather into his own net.

However the second period almost started in the worst possible fashion, with Notts 'keeper Young mistiming a challenge with Hall which saw the Chorley man go down, luckily the Leicester loanee received just a yellow card.

Substitute Kairo Mitchell almost managed to seal a more comfortable score-line late on for the Magpies, somehow firing over from Nemane's teasing cross from six-yards out.

The Magpies will now host Maidstone in the next round of the competition on January 14.

Here is how we rated Williams' men this evening:

Brad Young - 6

Unlucky to concede the opener, but extremely lucky to remain on the pitch following his late challenge on Hall early in the second half.

Kyle Cameron - 6

Continually looked to aid Nemane and Adebayo-Rowling down the left-hand side. Produced a number of inviting balls into the area and wasn't afraid to go back when nothing in front of him was an option.

Geraldo Bajrami - 6

A relatively quiet evening for the Albanian, with Chorley intent on utilising their pace up front by targeting Bajrami, but he dealt with it well. Calm and composed in possession and aerially dominant all evening.

Richard Brindley - 6

Solid, composed and defensively sound all evening. Was strong in his tackles and assured with his passing.

Aaron Nemane - 8.5

Was much more of a threat when switched out to his natural position on the right, evident in his involvement for Austin's goal. Showed much more conviction with his crossing in the second half and was constantly a threat going forward.

Tobi Adebayo-Rowling - 8

Will be disappointed in the role he played for Chorley's opener with a loose touch in defence, but continued to be the driving force to Notts' attacks down the right. Worked tirelessly and recovered well from his early mistake.

Matty Palmer - 7

Another controlled and composed midfield performance, but was guilty of a few careless passes from deep.

John Bostock - 8

Looked so comfortable all evening, producing a number of neat touches and incisive passes to show those glimpses of quality many know he possesses. Will be a huge player for Notts in the second half of the season.

Jim O'Brien - 7

A great vocal presence in midfield that could be heard with the reduced Meadow Lane crowd this evening. Kept the ball simple and won a number of important tackles in midfield.

Sam Austin - 8

Another brilliant display from the midfielder. Got his goal through great anticipation to net his third cup goal of the campaign, and was the catalyst in the second of the evening with his pass in behind for Nemane, something he was keen to utilise on a number of occasions.

Cedwyn Scott - 6

Was busy and worked hard all evening, but was starved of any clear-cut chances on the night.

SUBS:

Ed Francis - 6

Produced an important bit of positioning to deny Justin Johnson a run on goal late on. Kept it simple for his time on the pitch. Almost netted a third for Notts late on.

Kairo Mitchell - 6

Missed a glorious chance with one his first touches of the evening, firing over from inside the six-yard box.
