Notts County pay undisclosed fee for former Newcastle United winger

Notts County have completed a move for ex-Newcastle United winger Callum Roberts for an undisclosed fee from Blyth Spartans.

The Magpies have moved for the highly-rated wideman who has been in sensational form at the National League North side where he has scored 11 league goals this term.

Notts will now hope he can add more threat to their attack as they look for a top-seven finish with Roberts expected to be involved for their trip to Dagenham at the weekend.

Roberts is no stranger to Notts having played against them for Newcastle United's under-23s team in October 2018  which saw him score a penalty on the night as they secured a 2-0 win.

He then scored his first goal for Newcastle's first team in January last year when they emerged 4-2 winners in an FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers.

A loan spell at League Two Colchester then followed but he returned to St James' Park in March before he was released at the end of the season.

Despite being on trial at several clubs in the summer, Roberts ended up at Blyth where he has excelled leading him to be watched by several clubs.

Notts have now decided to make their move for the 22-year-old who has represented England at under-20s level on two occasions.
