Notts County midfielder Jim O'Brien to undergo surgery this week

Notts County midfielder Jim O’Brien will undergo surgery this week as he requires metal plates to mend his broken arm.

The Scotsman suffered a double fracture and a dislocated elbow in Saturday’s defeat to Bromley after clattering into a challenge late in the second half.

Magpies midfielder O’Brien now needs an operation in order for the bones to heal which will result in a metal plate being inserted.

Notts boss Ardley is hoping the surgery will be carried out  in Nottingham this week the former Scunthorpe midfielder set to be ruled out for the next three months.

“Jim needs plates in his arm,” he said.

“The fractures were such a clean break that  if he moves it,  the bones can come apart.

“We need to get a plate in there to set it. It’s going to be a while.

“Marco and Jim were at the hospital in Nottingham all day yesterday and as far as I know the surgery will be happening this week.

“Hopefully the sooner the better.

“Jim’s okay. He’s a bit more comfortable, but every now and then he’s in real pain.”
