Notts County manager Neal Ardley responds to fan who asks why he's not more demanding in the dugout

Notts County manager Neal Ardley has explained why he does not rant and rave at his players on the touchline after admitting it has little impact.

The Magpies boss was asked by a supporter in a fans’ forum on Tuesday night as to whether he could be more animated and demanding in the dugout.

Ardley usually sits down during games rather than patrol the dugout on his feet whereas other managers prowl their technical area constantly.

And the Magpies boss says that in his experience criticising the players from the dugout can have an adverse impact.

“The reason I like to sit down is because the main part help I can give the players is to see how tactically we can influence them,” he said.

“As managers we have to look away from the ball.

“I prefer to watch the game so the instructions I can give are clear and concise.

“One thing I’ve learned over six years is that shouting and screaming doesn’t have much effect. They can’t hear a lot of the times.

“It normally has a negative effect.”
