Notts County left sweating over key midfield duo

Notts County are sweating over the futures of key midfield duo Jim O’Brien and Michael Doyle.

The pair are both free to leave Meadow Lane this summer.

O’Brien had signed for Notts in January from Bradford City and would have triggered a year’s extension had the club remained in the Football League.

How the hell did it ever come to this at Notts County?

But following a result of their relegation, O’Brien can now leave the club if he wishes but is understood to be keen to remain.

The same applies to Doyle, who has a year left to run on his contract but has a gentleman’s agreement in place which allows him to depart now the club has been relegated.

However, the former Coventry skipper has certainly not ruled out staying to drive the club back to the Football League.

The Magpies would be keen to retain the duo for next season given they both impressed since arriving in the January transfer window.

Both players were virtually ever-present for Notts having formed a solid partnership in the heart of midfield having been signed by manager Neal Ardley.
