Notts County given huge FA Trophy boost thanks to Sky Sports

Notts County have received a boost in their bid to make it to the FA Trophy final - thanks to a little help from Sky Sports.

Sky have decided to show Harrogate's Carabao Cup second round clash at West Brom on TV, with the date of the fixture being September 16.

Harrogate had originally been due to face the Baggies on the Tuesday which would have given Simon Weaver's side an extra day to prepare for their trip to Meadow Lane.

But as a result of the TV coverage, they now face two games in little over 24 hours.

Notts' game against Town, who beat them in the National League play-off final, will kick-off at 7.45pm next Thursday with the winners going to Wembley for a second time.

The new comes as Notts had been left frustrated with the date of their semi-final after initially being told they could expect a bye straight to a showdown with Concord Rangers.

Notts Live had learned that the Magpies were on course to head to the final of non-league’s flagship cup competition because of Harrogate’s promotion to the Football League.

It is understood that Notts were informed by the FA that Harrogate  would not be able to play the semi-final because they are no longer a non-league side.

But Town were desperate to play the game and their participation has now finally been given the go ahead by the FA and the EFL.

The game will be played behind closed doors and will go straight to penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.

While fans are not able to attend due to the coronavirus pandemic, the club is showing the game on a free stream via the club's website and YouTube.

But should Notts make it through to the final, fans will be allowed to attend the Wembley showpiece as part of a pilot for a safe return of football fans.

As a result of the Harrogate game now being played, pre-season friendlies against Nuneaton and AFC Telford have been cancelled.

But they will take on Conference North side Boston United on Tuesday September 22. A live stream will also be provided of that game.

In the meantime, Notts' next friendly is a trip to Alfreton this weekend. That game is also being played behind closed doors.
